- Due to popular demand (you know who you are), I list below all the books I have ever read. As I generally only read very short excellent books, and excellent books are always short, they are indisputably excellent books. I also note where possible the name of the person that recommended the book to me, as it is unlikely that I would have heard of it otherwise and so they deserve the credit. I am merely a great judge.
In no particular order:
-The Stranger. Written by Albert Camus. Recommended by Tim Vyse
-Lord of the Flies. Written by William Golding. Recommended by Chris Sharpe
-The Black Cloud. Written by Fred Hoyle. Recommended by Richard Dawkins
-The Solitaire mystery. Written by Jostein Gaarder. Recommended by Agnes Szanto’s friend.
-A short history of the world. Written by H.G. Wells. Recommended by Amazon
-Heart of Darkness. Written by Joseph Conrad. Recommended Andy Wong
-The Old Man and the sea. Written by Ernest Hemingway. Recommended by Coco.-Giovanni's Room. Written by James Baldwin. Recommended by goodread.com (short books link).
-Of Mice and Men. Written by John Steinbeck. Recommended Sandra Guerra-Night, Written by Elie Wiesel. Recommended by the internet.
-Climbing mount improbable. Written by Richard Dawkins. Recommended by Abi Witherden and Amy Roberts.
-A brief history of time. Written by Stephen Hawking. Recommended by Stephen Morris.
-Animal Farm. Written by George Orwell. Read at school.
Books that I have read but are not as high quality as the above. Or they are shit. Make up your own minds, I don't care.
-The Bible: Written by various Plumbers and Piano tuners over the years. Forced to read bit by bit by men in drag.
-The Eagle Has Landed. Written by by Jack Higgins. Read at School
-American Psycho. Read for a laugh.
-Whatever Love Means. Written by David Baddiel. Read while waiting for someone for a week on an Island.
-The Hound of the Baskervilles. Written by Arthur Conan Doyle. This may have been good if it were shorter. I’m surprised that I finished it.
-An Idiot Abroad. I was on a 12 hour train journey, on holiday. Unlikely to have read it otherwise.
-The God Delusion. Written by Richard Dawkins. This is very good but too long. Only finished it because I was desperate to know why people believe in God. Still don't know. That's books for you. They should make it into a film.
-Sophie's World. Written by Jostein Gaarder. Recommended by Francis Clark. This is very good but too long. The Solitaire Mystery does the same job for me in less time.
-Last Orders. Written by Graham Swift. I only read this so i could drop it into conversation (it won the Booker prize).
It is probably the case that I have read perhaps as many as 10 more books than are here, but I forgot about them. If anyone believes that they know of a book that I have read and is not on my list (no jokes about porno mags) then let me know. I would be interested to know how well read I am.
